Pave Rings
Pave rings consist of tiny clusters of brilliant, small carat diamonds. Rows of holes in the metal contain tiny stones, filling the surface of the ring in a variety of patterns. In some pave rings, small gold grains or beads of platinum lay over the diamonds so that the ring sparkles like a diamond path.
There are a variety of styles in pave rings, including the cubic pave, princess pave ring, and pave eternity ring. Many modern designs cover the ring in the pave style setting or keep it on one side of the ring. When white platinum accompanies the pave, it accents the gemstones creating a magnificent sparkle and shine.
Jewelers place small, v-shaped grooves on the sides of the ring. When they use more than one row of pave, the space between the stones is slightly deeper. Using a fish tail allows larger carat diamonds to be mounted.
When looking at pave rings, pay attention to the security of the mounting rather than to the number of gemstones a ring can hold. You want the stones to be held firmly in the ring without risk of losing a stone during normal wear.
