Jewelry Making Tools
Making jewelry is a skilled art and requires special tools. These tools enable the craftsman to work with small and delicate materials while reducing the risk of damage and error when creating a piece of jewelry. As time has progressed, these tools have become more technologically advanced, allowing craftsmen to create increasingly intricate and flawless pieces of jewelry.
Tools like jigs, chain and round nose pliers, flush cutters, nylon jaw pliers, fine step jaw pliers, loop closing pliers, small jet Bunsen burners, solders, small hammers and mallets, jewelers magnification eye pieces, fine chisels, glass saws, and microscopes are often employed in the jewelry making process.
Jigs have a matrix of different shaped holes with pins. Interchanging the pins creates different patterns. Using nylon-coated pliers does not damage the metal or leave any marks on it. Fine step pliers have graduated steps to make loops in wires. Loop closing pliers have grooves that hold and close jump rings.
When working with gold and other precious metals and gemstones, you should take the utmost care to see that there are no unsightly tool marks.
